Property Details
Our three storey brick, fully renovated Victorian backs onto the Niagara Escarpment greenbelt area, 100 meters above the city with a breathtaking view of Burlington Bay, the Skyway Bridge and the Toronto skyline, sixty kilometers across Lake Ontario.

The main floor consists of a formal living room with gas fireplace and leather furniture, a large family dining room with pine antiques and a Roland digital piano and a smaller but very modern kitchen with every imaginable appliance. Our favourite room is the family room - an enclosed porch at the rear with picture windows providing a marvellous view of the city, the bay and the lake. This room features an entertainment wall with 56 inch projection TV, 80 channel cable reception, VCR, DVD, and stereo. The family room opens onto a spacious wooden deck with a natural gas BBQ and patio furniture. The Niagara Escarpment, which falls off several hundred feet at the rear of the property, adds an element of privacy to the treed back yard. A full bath and an entrance foyer complete the main floor space.

The second floor features a large master bedroom with King Size bed and TV. Its bay windows overlook a small open verandah facing the front garden and the tree-lined street, a quiet cul-de-sac. There is a study with bookshelves,an antique desk and computer with high speed internet access. A full bath with a jetted Jacuzzi tub and an enclosed porch with day bed overlooking the lake are also located on the second floor.

The third floor houses two very private bedrooms with beamed ceilings. There is a double bed in one and twin beds in the other. The rear bedroom again has that wonderful view. The third floor has its own full bath.

The basement is unfinished but contains the laundry room and a workshop area and there is an attached garden shed accessed by a side door and a carport.

Our street, lined with a canopy of old maples, extends along the brink of the Hamilton Mountain and is populated with an eclectic variety of older homes. There are extensive park areas with formal gardens and exceptional vistas a short walk away. A neighbourhood business area with shops, restaurants and groceries is within three blocks.
Area Details
Hamilton is located at the apex of Ontario's Golden Horseshoe area - forty-five minutes by car to all the popular Niagara tourist destinations and to downtown Toronto. It is Canada's eighth largest city with a population of nearly half a million. Take the back roads to Niagara Falls and visit more than thirty boutique wineries which feature tastings and tours. Niagara wines - chardonnays and icewines in particular - are beginning to gain international notoriety. Lake Ontario beaches are twenty minutes away and Lake Erie beaches less than an hour. One of the city's main attraction is the Royal Botanical Gardens - thousands of acres of both formal gardens and natural wetlands and an interesting greenhouse. Dundurn Castle, a restored nineteeth century mansion is close by. Niagara-on-the-Lake is an historic and quaint waterfront town with dozens of interesting restaurants, shops, theatre, cherry, peach and plum orchards and the beautifully manicured Niagara Parkway stretching southward along the river to Queenston, Niagara Falls and Fort Erie. Toronto is a world-class city with attractions too numerous to mention including American League baseball with the Blue Jays at Skydome with its retractable roof. You can step back in time by visiting farmer's markets in Kitchener, St. Jacobs and Elmira attended by Mennonites in their black clothing and hats arriving by horse and buggy. The Stratford Shakespearean Festival is just an hour away. Conservation areas for picnics and swimming are numerous as are bicycle trails. The Bruce Trail which extends along the World Heritage Niagara Escarpment for three hundred miles, passes directly below our house. There must be fifty golf courses within a half hour drive, some of which (Glen Abbey, Whirlpool) are ranked in Canada's top twenty. Toronto, with its amazing ethnic population provides an opportunity to sample food and drink from around the world. Every weekend there is something happening in the city - a jazz festival, Caribana, concerts, fireworks at Ontario Place - the list goes on. Canada is truly one of the world's best vacation values with it's favourable exchange rate on the Canadian dollar - presently around $1.47 to $1.00 U.S.
